Title : Part 5 – The Temple
Fandom: Star Wars

Prompt : # 025 (strangers)
Disclaimer: Star Wars doesn’t belong to me. No copy right infringement intended.

Kyle Dax held his wife’s hand while in his right arm carrying his four year-old son. They walked slowly towards the huge wall of the Temple. The complex was located on a high hill, towering graciously. With each step closer to it, Ronon Dax felt increased excitement and eagerness. It was not so with his parents. The closer they got to the Temple, the heavier their hearts had become.

They entered the compound and a Jedi Padawan approached them.

“Hello, how can I help you?”

Suddenly a Jedi Knight went closer and looked at Kyle wide eyed.

“Master Rayt? It’s…” He lost his words.

“I am Kyle Dax, my wife Vivian, and this is our son Ronon. We’re here to see Master Ben Skywalker.”

“Master Skywalker is away, but you can meet with the Magistrate if you wish.” The Jedi Knight replied.

Kyle nodded politely, “I will be honored to see the Magistrate, then.”

“Go get Mistress Sagura, tell her Comulo Rayt is here… with Valerie Moss.” The Jedi Knight whispered in the Padawan’s ear.

“Come this way, Master Rayt, Miss Moss…”

Kyle put Ronon down and the boy whispered in his ear, “Daddy, he knows you…”

“I know him too.” Kyle whispered back and winked at his son.

“Thank you, Brewster; we will just wait here for Mistress Sagura.”

Not long after, the tender voice of the Magistrate greeted them, “Comulo.. Valerie..”

She was lean and tall, and was quite old. She had kind eyes which energized warmth radiant and firmness at the same time.

“Look at you. You two look amazingly healthy. Please, don’t be like strangers… do come in.”

Comulo and Valerie walked inside together with Ronon walking in the middle. Mistress Sagura smiled at Ronon and bowed to speak to the child.

“And who is this? I am Rhonda Sagura, what is your name handsome boy?”

Ronon watched her with his keen eyes, “I’m Ronon Dax.”

“Well, hello Ronon. Welcome to the Jedi Temple.”

She said and they resumed walking deeper inside the Temple. Brewster followed closely behind them.

“Although I can guess very well, I’d like to ask you the reason of your visit, old friend.”

Comulo nodded, “We need to talk, Rhonda.”

“Very well. Brewster, will you take the young Dax for a walk around?”

Led by Sagura, the three people entered a large beautiful garden and she asked them to sit on a park bench under a yellow-blossomed tree. Valerie looked around and remembered clearly that this place was the same garden she used to play in as a child.

“I sensed that your son is very strong. His strength is raw, like lava inside a volcano.” Sagura started.

“Indeed, he is.” Comulo said, “And he is very smart too.”

Sagura smiled, “Just like his parents…”

Comulo shook his head, “Smarter than us, Rhonda… way smarter… sometimes it scares us.”

“That is why you brought him here… but I sense that Valerie does not approve of your decision. Is that why you keep silent, my child?”

Valerie smirked, “This is not about me, Mistress Sagura, nor about Kyle. Whether I approve or disapprove is irrelevant. This is about our son’s future.”

Sagura smiled tenderly, “I hear Comulo’s wisdom in your words.”

“What do you expect to hear from me? You know very well what I think about this place.” Valerie sighed and turned her face away.

“When we entered this garden, I caught you smiling. It’s good to know that you still have at least one good memory about this place.”

“Viv…” Comulo held his wife’s hands, looking at Sagura as if asking her to leave her alone.

Sagura could not help but notice the way her old friend and his wife called themselves. They clearly had left their real names behind, maybe it was a way for them to forget their dark past, she guessed.

“I understand, my child...” Sagura reached Valerie’s hand but the latter suddenly rose from her seat.

“No you don’t! You can’t understand! How can you understand me? You took my first child away from me and I lost him forever. Yet here I am giving you my second child. Can you understand that?”

“Viv…” Comulo rose and reached his wife’s arms to calm her.

Valerie closed her eyes and took a deep breath, whispering “Just say what you have to say, Kyle, and please take me home…”

They all sat down once more and now that Valerie had calmed down, Comulo started to explain why he needed to talk to Master Ben Skywalker.

“Our son is not only strong and smart, Rhonda. He is also…” Comulo hesitated.

Sagura saw the confusion in his eyes but remained silent.

“Before we decided to bring him here, we tested his blood for midichlorians count. As you did, we too sensed his extraordinary strength.”

“It must be off scale…” Sagura guessed.

To her amazement Comulo shook his head, “No, Rhonda. It was negative. We drew his blood 3 times and checked 3 three times and the results were the same. His blood doesn’t have midichlorians. He is a normal person, conceived by normal parents.”

“What do you mean?” Sagura asked.

Comulo told her the story of their journey to Pegasus and how they got cured.

“We have one request for Master Skywalker, Rhonda.” Comulo said.

“Let me guess. You do not wish him to be studied in the Jedi Laboratory. His being a force-adept without having midichlorians in his blood shall remain a secret. Is that it?”

“More or less, Rhonda. We do not wish what happened to our first born to happen to Ronon. Please Rhonda, don’t let Ronon end up in the lab. I will leave him here but I need Master Skywalker to communicate his agreement to me tonight. Will you take care of this?”

“Of course, old friend, if you trust me.”

“I trust you.” Comulo confirmed and shook her hands.

“Well, I don’t. Kyle, she is the person who took Valdemere away from me. She is the scientist who was responsible for him and she is the one who separated me from my son in the name of science! How can you trust her?”

Comulo shook his head sadly, “Vivian… we’ve discussed this…”

“OK… OK… I’m sorry…” Valerie sighed and walked away in anguish.

“I’m sorry, she has hard time forgetting about…”

“It’s alright, Comulo, it’s not her fault. It was mine. I did take Valdemere away from her and prevented her from seeing him.”

“You were following orders, as was I.” Comulo said.

“She didn’t know that, did she? You never told her?”

“She had gone through enough painful experience, Rhonda. Telling her the reason the Council took Valdemere away was because they suspected her as an infiltrator might cause her to fall to the dark side. Beside, it was Valdemere… he was the infiltrator all along…”

Rhonda Sagura watched her old friend carefully, “I can sense your sadness… do you still grieve Valdemere’s death after all these years?”

Comulo smiled, “You will never understand that, Rhonda. We have been taught about love, but you can never know true love until you experience it yourself.”

“Love is not bound by our bodies. It is not bound by the length of time that we are alive. Love is a gift, Rhonda. And the gift of love is to know the truth of love. True love is when you are unified with someone you love and when you have your child. You will find that true love is amazing and that you are amazingly in love… forever…”

“So… you will never understand how I feel to have taken the very life of my true love… or how she feels to watch her true love being slaughtered by someone she loves so dearly… You will never understand the sorrow, the grief, the horror of it… no one can, with an exception of Master Skywalker.”

“It’s a strange feeling, Rhonda. It’s like watching your life from a stranger’s perspective. It’s like you stop being yourself and become a total stranger. You will never understand that… you don’t want to understand that. It’s so… painful.”

“So, if my wife said terrible things about Jedi or the Jedi Order, please know that she is only being afraid. She is afraid that the same thing will happen again with our second child. Please forgive her for not being able to forget.”

Mistress Rhonda Sagura nodded, “You’ve changed a lot, old fried. You are not the Comulo Rayt I knew for 30 years anymore.”

Comulo bowed, “I am Kyle Dax. Although I am a total stranger to you, I know you very well, Rhonda… because Comulo Rayt lives still inside me. Your old friend is not gone.”

Title : Part 4 – The Path of Life
Fandom: Star Wars

Kyle was awakened by a familiar sound. He immediately sat up and reached out to his wife. She was sitting on her side of the bed, sobbing. She was covering her face to reduce the sound as not to disturb his sleep. He held her tight to soothe her.

“Hush, my love… it’s only a dream. You’re safe now, at home, with me. Ssshh…”

Vivian hugged him tight, as if she was afraid that if she let go he would disappear into thin air. Kyle caressed her soft hair and drowned his face in it. He let her cry a little bit and then broke his embrace to look into her eyes.

“Want to talk about it?” He wiped her tears from her cheeks with his thumbs.

Vivian shook her head, “Aren’t you tired of it?”

“Tired of what?”

“Of my stories… of my nightmares…”

Kyle kissed his wife’s lips lightly, “Do you remember, on our wedding day I said something before drinking the wine?”

Vivian smiled, “How could I forget that moment? You looked at me in the eyes and said: Although I’m not a force adept anymore, I have become one with the force. You are the force in my life.”

Vivian looked into Kyle’s eyes, reliving the moment, “It was the most beautiful words spoken to me… ever. I will never forget it.”

“Then, you know I will never get tired of your stories, of your nightmares, of anything about you. Vivian, I have become one with you… I have become one with the force in my life. Your pain is mine… now please, share it, my love. Share your burden with me. It doesn’t matter if you have told it to me a thousand times. If it’s still burdening you, please share it again, and again, and again. I’m here for you, love.”

Kyle led her to lie down on his chest and he held her tight as she told him again the story that haunting her still. He didn’t know when or how she could be free of the trauma; he only knew that she needed him to be strong. She was not the little fighter he knew before; she had been reduced by tortures and evil into an almost empty shell. Almost… because she still had love and tenderness, and that’s all he needed her to be; a loving and caring wife.

“I was lying on a cold metal bed… they took away all my clothes. It was freezing and I started to tremble. Then I saw him. Valdemere… he came to me and spoke nice words, but his hand was stabbing me with needles. One at a time. Each stab was done so slowly to ensure pain. Then he would connect the needle with cable. It took so long… there were so many needles… all over my body… and… and… and… I woke up… but the pain… I could still feel it, Kyle… I felt it still even when I opened my eyes…”

“Hush… it’s alright, my love… no one is going to hurt you again. Not when I’m with you…”

“I know. Kyle…?”

“Yes, love?”

“I’m tired of these nightmares. Why can’t I just burry the past?”

“Maybe because we can’t. Ronon is a force adept… sooner or later he would need a proper guidance.”

“How far have you told him the story of Comulo and Valerie?”

“Up to where they came back from Pegasus.”

Vivian sighed and buried her face deeper in his embrace, “Tomorrow night you’re going to tell him their new names, aren’t you?”

“I think it’s about time, Viv… he’s 4 years old. He’s old enough to know the truth. I’m not going to wait for bedtime to tell him, maybe after dinner.”

Vivian hung on to him tighter; since childhood she always did that if she was afraid.

“What do you think he will say once he knows that he is a force adept?” She asked.

“I don’t know… but I’m going to show him his choices.”

“What choices?”

“The choices to walk in the path of Jedi like I was or become a bounty hunter like you were or anything unlike us... I don’t know, Viv… I don’t know… I’m scared too.”

“You have taught him about the Jedi, the Sith, and the Yuuzhan Vong… you have showed him the difference between good and evil, I think he will make the right choice.”

“There is one problem… how do we know which is the right choice for him?”

“Not being a Sith or a Jedi is the right choice.” Vivian said.

Kyle sighed, “You hate them, Viv, you don’t trust them because they took Valdemere away from you.”

“If you know so, the how could you give him that choice? How could you expect me to let him walk inside that damn temple? I lost my first son forever, because of them…”

“Because of me!” Kyle said in a firm tone.

“I let them take him away from us, Viv. I was one of them. I was a Jedi Master. I was what you hate most. I killed our son with my own hands. I was the cause of your nightmares.”

Vivian broke free, jumped off the bed and walked towards the window. She stared at the blackness of the night. Kyle followed her and spoke in a softer manner.

“You can tell me stories about the tortures you had been through and I will never get tired of them because you never told me what your nightmares are about. But Viv, I know what your nightmare is about. It has to do with me, holding my light saber, cutting off Valdemere’s head. Your nightmare is about watching the head rolling away across the field. Sometimes you even saw the head laughing at you… sometimes you saw your own head rolling away…”

Vivian covered her ears, shaking her head and started to cry. Kyle came to hug her. She tried to break free from him, crying harder, but Kyle didn’t let her go. He held her tight until she stopped fighting and rested her head against his bare chest.

“I know it, my love… I see your nightmares. That’s the way it is when I become one with the force… what you see, I see… even in your sleep. I know how bad it is… and I know why you keep lying about it. You tried to protect me from the guilt.”

Vivian cried harder and it was almost impossible for Kyle to calm her down. He knew this would happen, however he didn’t have the heart to watch his beloved woman broke into tears in that manner, yet not everything was in the open. Before their son knew about their true identities, they had to be honest with each other.

“Honey, we don’t have to do it anymore. We don’t have to lie to each other anymore.”

Vivian was shaken by his words, “What do you mean?”

“I know we’ve been lying to each other, covering the truth that we both know for fact just to maintain this false paradise.”

Vivian didn’t say a thing; her tears fell down her cheeks.

“I know you choose to keep silent and hide behind this new reality. I did the same, but it ends tonight, because tomorrow is a new reality for our son and I want us to be ready for it too. Viv, I know that we both had somehow re-attained our force ability. It was slow at first, but then it came back all at once. That’s how I can see your nightmares, because our telepathic link has been reestablished the moment the midichlorians reside in our blood.”

Vivian shook her head, crying still, “I don’t want to go back…”

“We can’t deny what we are, my love. We are born force adepts and we will be ones as long as we remain here. Midichlorians do not exist in Pegasus and that was why we lost our force, but the moment we entered this galaxy, they come back.”

Kyle kissed his crying wife and held her again.

“Vivian, this is not about us. This is about Ronon. Not once when I see your nightmares in my sleep that I don’t feel guilty. Just because we hate the world out there, just because we are fed up with fighting and killing, doesn’t mean we have to keep him here with us forever. We both live in eternal torture, but Ronon doesn’t have to. He has to find his own destiny. We have to give him a chance to know the world. We have to show him his choices…Like we choose not to use our force, let him choose what to do with his...”

Vivian looked at her husband with a new found admiration. She knew it was hard for him to let Ronon go too, but he had his strength and objectivity in check.

“If… If he chooses the Jedi path…”

“Then we will take him to the Jedi Temple. We both will go…”

Kyle kissed Vivian lips; not lightly, but deeply now. As her mouth opened he slipped his tongue to meet hers and they were locked in a deep kiss. Passionate kiss it was, but not one filled with pleasure. It was a way of two people in love, sharing their sorrow and fear, trying to comfort one another… the kiss ended when the first light of dawn caressed their faces.

Kyle and Vivian Dax watched as the new day arrived…

Title : A Day in the Life of the Dax - Part 3
Fandom: Star Wars
Author : Indie
Rating : A
Prompt : # 058 (dinner)
Disclaimer: Star Wars doesn’t belong to me. No copy right infringement intended.

The family Dax gathered in the dining room in their small house. The drapes were not drawn, sending the warm light out to the back yard, forming beautiful shadowy effect on the cold grass. Dinner had been great and Ronon had told several jokes he learned from Almida. After dinner, Ronon played a computer simulation game for a little while in the family room, trying to beat his mother in a fight simulation. Meanwhile Kyle Dax was busy finishing the administrative work of his business. After his work was finished he took his son to bed.

Each night, Kyle and Vivian would tuck their son in. Vivian would kiss him and left the room, but Kyle usually remained to tell him a bedtime story.

“So, where were we?” Kyle asked Ronon, taking a seat beside his son’s bed.

“Master Comulo Rayt and Valerie Moss were kidnapped.” Ronon said, clutching his blanket, eager to hear more stories.

Kyle always told his son stories about the same one man. A Jedi Master named Comulo Rayt. He told his son about his journeys to become a Jedi Padawan, his works to become Jedi Knight, and his adventures as Jedi Master. He also told Ronon about how Comulo Rayt in the age of 22 saved a 2 year old girl named Valerie Moss in an earth quake and took her under his custody. He raised her like his own daughter and she became his Padawan. And so the adventures went on until Valerie Moss grew up into a beautiful teenage girl of 14 years old. And that was the time when they were kidnapped by a secret organization and were lost for 4 years.

Ronon was hooked on these characters and could not wait for the conclusion of the stories.

“Daddy, what happen to Comulo and Valerie?”

Kyle smiled and continued his story.

“They were lost, my son. No Jedi could find them. They had looked for them in vain. 4 years later one bounty hunter who was a former Jedi Knight found their traces. He informed the Jedi Council and a new search was conducted based on this new information.”

“Did they finally find them?”

“Yes. They found both Comulo and Valerie alive… yet, not as they were before. They had been changed in a molecular level. They had been used in a genetic experiment. Somehow Comulo Rayt managed to break away, carrying his Padawan, but he couldn’t remember how. The Jedi scientists tried to save them to no avail. Each molecule in their bodies was changing slowly and it would kill them eventually… slowly and painfully. However, the most shocking finding was that Valerie was carrying a baby. She was pregnant. The pregnancy worsened her condition so the scientists took the baby out of her and grew him inside a bacta tank. The child was not human. He was part human part Vong. He had yellow eyes and fangs, but his DNA showed that he was the son of Comulo and Valerie.”

“Wow… and what did they call him?” Ronon asked.

“Valerie Moss gave him a name: Valdemere. Seeing the condition of her son, she decided to take the baby away. She didn’t want to see her son grow up in a laboratory as a research subject. In fact, Comulo and Valerie too had to spend most of their time in a lab as the scientists tried to find a cure for them. Valerie however, could not take it anymore. She took the baby and broke away from the lab, killing 2 scientists and 2 Jedi on her way out. She was recaptured a couple of days later and was punished for her action in taking lives of fellow Jedi. Valerie Moss was given two choices by the Jedi Council. To remain in the temple and learned the Jedi way, or to leave and never to see her son again.”

“Why did she ruin her own life, Daddy?”

“She didn’t. She only acted like all mothers in the universe would act. She only wished to be with her son. The laboratory, in which she was in, was different than the one where her son was kept. She had only seen her son twice in 6 months after they took him out of the bacta tank. The scientists believed that she had lost her mind and would harm the baby.”

“Would she?”

“Of course she wouldn’t. She would take him away from Jedi Temple, that’s for sure. Comulo wanted to help her, but he couldn’t. He was bound with his vow as a Jedi Master to serve a higher purpose. He… he abandoned her to care for his son. He watched him day and night at the lab, but he… he… he had to choose and he chose his son over his Padawan.”

“Did he love her?”

“Yes… but he didn’t know it. And when he knew it, he was too proud to admit it. Valerie was 20 years old when she finally left the temple, and Comulo was 40. Valerie left angry, and her heart filled with hatred towards the Jedi for taking away her son. Yet her love to Comulo had made her come back often to the temple. Sometimes she would come and made up reasons for her visits, but in truth she only wished to see Comulo, the only person she knew who still had connections to her son.”

“Bad things happened and Valdemere was fallen into the hands of his maker… the secret organization that created him in the first place. Comulo and Valerie went to find him. Valerie sacrificed a lot in her pursuit to find her long lost son only to find that she had lost him the moment she had him in her….”

“What does it mean, Daddy?”

“Valdemere was programmed somehow to lure the Jedi into a trap. He was evil and mean and he tortured his own mother when he captured her. He had many Jedi killed. He was only 6 years old when it happened. He was a pure evil…”

“What happened then?”

“Comulo rescued Valerie and were united once again. Comulo, who had just lost his son, realized that he could not bear losing his love. So he told Valerie how he felt about her. He told her he loved her.”

“Did he make her his wife, like you and mommy?”

“Yes, but not after killing the evil Valdemere. He slew the head of the person who had caused them so much pain. Although it looked as if he had no hesitation, in fact Comulo died that day. Both Comulo and Valerie died inside that day. Comulo, as a father who murdered his own son, and Valerie as a mother who witnessed the murder. The moment his light saber cut off Valdemere’s head, was the moment when they died. Comulo Rayt and Valerie Moss had never been the same after that.”

“Comulo took Valerie away from all of the pain. They were both dying and thought that it was best to leave all behind and enjoyed the rest of their shorted lives together… far away from killings and fights. Comulo resigned from the Jedi Council and went to another galaxy with his beloved woman. They planned to die together in a far away place…”

“It almost sounds beautiful…” Ronon said, watching his father’s eyes observantly.

Kyle smiled, hearing his son’s remarks that sounded so much like an adult’s.

“It was beautiful. They went to a beautiful, peaceful galaxy called Pegasus. There they resided in a place called Madevia. After a few months, the molecular change in their bodies got worse and Valerie were dying faster. Yet, they lived each day in bliss, because they had each other. Love was the only thing that kept them alive that long.”

“One day, they met a local woman who was concerned to see Valerie’s condition. She directed them to her friends who were scientists and once again, Comulo and Valerie ended up in a lab. Only this time, they were cured.”

“Cool! So they were OK again, daddy?”

“Yes, but with a high price. In order to stop the change and reverse it, the Madevian scientists had to eliminate everything foreign in their bodies; including the midichlorians. So, they had to give it up to live. They stopped being force adepts and became regular people. One year later, they were totally cured and Comulo Rayt married Valerie Moss and lived happily in Madevia for a while.”

“For a while? Not happily ever after?”

Kyle laughed, “Only for a while in Madevia, my son, because 6 months later, Valerie Moss… or Mrs. Valerie Rayt got pregnant. Madevia was a great place but it was not suitable for a human’s baby. The Madevians’ physiology was much different from humans and the planet would be too dangerous for a human’s child. Thus, Valerie and Comulo went back home. However, they went to a distant place, far from Jedi’s scrutiny and changed their names. Because they were not force adepts any longer, their arrival were undetected by the Jedi Council.”

“Why did the Council want them still?”

“Well… because Comulo was once a diplomat, he was also in the Council. He knew so much about Jedi Council and their plans and how they worked. He knew secret stuff. That was why the Council still needed him.”

“So, what had become of Comulo and Valerie? What were their new names?”

Kyle kissed his son’s forehead, “That’s for tomorrow. Good night, big guy!”

“Good night, Dad.”

“Light’s off.” Kyle said, instructing the computer to switch off the light in Ronon’s bed.

“Come on, I really have to go now.” Vivian Dax pleaded her friends.

“One more time, Viv, we haven’t got it right.” Mac, the leader of the band begged her.

“You guys can rehearse without me. I have to cook for lunch, otherwise my husband and son will starve.” Vivian laughed seeing Mac’s pleading face.

“They can eat out…” Serena, the guitarist said, “My husband does that often.”

“Come on Viv, you know you’re gonna get us out of this town one day.”

“What’s that suppose to mean, Mac?”

“Well, you know… your songs are great. They will get us out… become big... touring across the galaxy… you know, like a great band?” Serena replied.

Vivian did not know what to say, she stared at them blankly.

“I know you never thought of that, but I’m very sure you have the idea too… don’t you?”

“I don’t know, Mac… I have family… I…”

“I have family too, Viv. I have a wife and two kids… but this is not something that we do for fun. This is what we are… what you are. You have potentials. You sing beautifully and you have written great songs. You can be big… even without us.”

“Can we not talk about this now? I really have to go.”

“What’s wrong with you, Viv? You seem so full of spirit when you finish a song, but you are always reluctant to go out there.” Serena asked, “Isn’t it the point of writing songs? So that people can listen to them? One way or another we have to go out there, Viv, to get more people to listen to our songs… your songs. We are growing and one day this town will be too small for us.”

Vivian smiled at both her friends, “If that day comes, I promise you that you two can have all my songs. I may not be able to go with you, but my songs will. The songs that I have written for this band are all yours to keep. Now, I really have to go. See you tomorrow, guys.”

***

Ronon ran towards his mother the moment she arrived at FIXin DAX.

“What’s for lunch, mommy?” The handsome boy walked by her side.

“Your favorites. Where’s your dad?”

“He’s still fixing Mr. Bonasera’s speeder with Almida.”

Almida was Kyle’s assistant and only employee. He was a young man of 21 years old. He had his right leg replaced with robotics after a terrible accident 5 years ago. The right side of his face had been badly burnt and he looked horribly ugly despite of the surgery he had been through. He also lost his right sight in the accident. Almida had difficulties finding works in the farms due to his disabilities, but Kyle Dax saw that he had other talents then farming. Kyle trained him to become a mechanic and employed him at his garage. In a way, Kyle Dax had saved his life.

Vivian left her son eating in the small office inside the garage and walked to find her husband. He saw him and Almida were conversing beside an old speeder. Their hands and work-clothes were smudged with oil and grease.

“Now, you boys should take a break.” Smiling, she addressed them with her sweet melancholic voice.

Kyle’s face was brightened, “Lunch time already?” He landed a light kiss on his wife’s forehead, carefully as not to let his dirty hands and clothes touched her.

“Hello, Mrs. Dax.” Almida said politely.

“Hi, Almida, come on, let’s have lunch together. I bring enough food for all of us.”

“Thank you, ma’am, but I need to go on an errand.”

And so the Dax family had the luxury of the small office as their dining hall. Kyle noticed that his wife seemed a little bit preoccupied.

“Is everything alright, love?” He asked.

Ronon quickly watched his mother more carefully, trying to find out why his father suddenly asked the question.

“It’s nothing that worth your concern.” Vivian smiled.

“Everything that causes that frown to appear on my lovely wife’s face is worth my concern.” Kyle answered, before sipping the afternoon tea from his glass.

Ronon looked at his father and mother in turn, trying to be more perceptive.

“It’s the band. Mac and Serena planned to tour outside this city, to get more audience, more money.”

For a few seconds, Kyle did not say anything waiting for his wife to go on with her story, but she didn’t say anything else.”

“What did you say?” He finally broke the silence.

Vivian sigh, “What’s necessary to be said.”

“I’m sorry…” Kyle held his dear wife’s hand to show his sympathy, but not too much that might raise questions from their ever observant son.

“Why are you sorry, daddy?” Still a question was posed by Ronon.

Kyle looked at his son, “Because your mother is not going with the band.”

“Why, mommy?”

“Because I can’t leave you boys alone.” Vivian said, smiling.

Ronon nodded, as if he understood, “I don’t want you to go away, mommy, I want you here with us… don’t we, daddy?”

Both Vivian and Kyle laughed and said yes in chorus.

FIXin DAX; said the bright neon sign on the corner of the 8th Street of Almeraville. It was one of hundreds of small towns in small planet of Romoc in the outer rim. The town maybe small, but most of the people of Almeraville were big at heart and kindness. Almeraville was an agricultural town that supplied grains and beans to the local cities in Romoc.

FIXin Dax was a garage, where the farmers and towners used to go to service their speeders and small crafts and farm equipments. The owner was a man in his mid forties, Kyle Dax. He was the exact manifestation of the words tall, dark and handsome. He had dark brows and dark eyes. Although he didn’t talk much, people easily saw kindness and love in his eyes. He had strong arms and hands which would shake anyone’s hands tenderly. At the first glance, anyone would consider him trustworthy.

Kyle Dax lived in a small house with large garden and small pond not too far away from his garage. His wife, Vivian, was also a wonder to tell. She was 20 years younger than Kyle and very beautiful. Opposite to Kyle, she had blonde hair and bright green eyes. Her skin was pale, but she had a warm smile. If Kyle was big and strong, Vivian was petite and looked fragile, although in fact she was a very dynamic person. Vivian Dax also worked, although not a full-timer. Two nights in a week she sang in a local pub for two to three hours each night. Her voice was angelic and she danced beautifully. When she sang, the pub was usually packed mostly with young people who loved to dance into her music. The owner of the club had offered her to work more, but each time she rejected and said that she would like to devote her time at home to her husband and son.

A Son. Yes, Kyle and Vivian had a 4 year old son named Ronon. He was another story. When the couple first came to Almeraville, Ronon was only a few months old. However, in 4 years of his life in this town, Ronon had proven to be different from other children in Almeraville. He had not only inherited the beauty of his parents, he was also strong like his father and talented like his mother… he was way smarter than any children of his age, or older… much older. The town people would consider Ronon a genius. Finally, before his 3rd birthday, the parents thought that he had no longer the need to attend formal education. For the last one year, nobody except his parents had ever known how advance Ronon was in comparison with other children in town. All in all, Ronon was still a child and he was an adorable one. Everybody like Ronon… like everybody like the Dax.

“Boys… breakfast’s ready!” Vivian yelled from the dining room.

The room was small. In the middle there was a round dining table with four chairs, facing the large windows and glass door with garden view.

Sounds of footsteps followed by giggles were heard before Kyle stepped inside the room carrying Ronon on his back. As they all sat down, Kyle watched the faces of his loved ones with mixed feelings of proud and joy.

“So, what’s your schedule?” He asked his lovely wife.

Vivian smiled, “I have finished it, so I’m going to rehearse it with the band this morning.”

Ronon clapped his hands, “You’ve finished a new song? I wanna see you rehearse, mommy.”

“Today is tech-mech day.” Kyle reminded his son.

Kyle and Vivian raised their son in a unique way. For each day of the week, Ronon had to go either with his mom or dad and spend the whole day studying. However, unlike normal kid, Ronon learned more detailed lessons. Tech-mech day was a day where he had to learn things about technology and mechanics, which usually included ship and craft machinery, practical appliances, weaponry, and piloting various space crafts. Kyle would take him to his garage and gave him an assignment to be finished. Sometimes it was a computer simulation; many times it was real application.

“Can I exchange it, daddy? Tomorrow I’ll go with you.”

“No, baby, you have to go with your dad today according to your schedule.”

“Aw, mommy, please…”

“You can watch the real live performance.” Vivian winked.

“Really?”

“Yes, really! Come on, finish your breakfast.” Kyle said, exchanging looks with Vivian, disagreed upon her decision to let their son watch her sing in the club at night.

Half an hour later Vivian Dax stood at the front yard waving goodbye to her husband and son.

“See you at lunch, mommy!” Ronon shouted as the speeder flew away in speed.

Rain

Qui-Gon Jinn, Jedi Master, lifted his face into the rain and sighed heavily. He drew back the hood of his robe and let the water soothe his skin. Refreshing and cool, it seemed he felt every drop against his skin.
Closing his eyes against the night sky he drew in a deep breath and held it before letting it out slowly. Overhead a small security orb buzzed at him from the edge of the Contemplation Balcony and stopped a foot away from his face.
Bright blue eyes burned at it, his face lifted to stare into the blinking red eye that was checking who he was before it buzzed on again. His eyes refocussed on the stream of traffic cruising the lanes just below the Balcony. Suddenly a small red aircar broke off and steered towards the Jedi Temple. For a moment he caught the raindrops falling, lit brilliantly by the lights at the front of the car, caught the colours that light through water made.
The moon was bright - almost full - and low in the sky. Stars were blotted out by the lights from the huge planet city that stretched below him and so, to him, the sky seemed one unending mass of night.
Somewhere out there, he knew as surely as he knew the planet was turning slowly on its axis, that there was a greater darkness that waited. Beyond what he could see or sense, beyond what he could imagine - for who could imagine that after all? Darkness beyond darkness, beyond understanding, beyond sense.

He pulled his hood over his hair and tucked his hands into the wide sleeves of his robe.It would not be long now.
"Master?"
He turned at the sound of his apprentice's voice.
"It's time to leave."
He nodded and moved towards the door where the young man waited inside the shelter of the building. The door closed softly behind him.
The rain lessened for a few minutes, blowing in small gusts against the walls of the Temple, soaking into all the small cracks and fissures that a building that age had. The storm began later.
